UK Renewables Strategy
Climate change aims:
The UK Renewable Energy Strategy (2009) sets out “the path for us to meet our legally-binding target to ensure 15% of our energy comes from renewable sources by 2020”. The Scottish Government has set out an ambitious target of 100% electricity generation from renewable sources by 2020, with the 2011 target already met. According to the Marine Scotland Strategic Plan 2010-2013 “Marine renewables will make a critical contribution to both our climate change and socio-economic aims” (Scottish Government 2010).
The planned 2MW device is part of a phased development programme, which will lead to commercial deployment of approximately 150MW by 2020. Thus for an emerging technology Scotrenewables will be in a position to contribute to both the Scottish and UK targets for energy generation from renewable energy sources.
